Description
English: 14 sherds of early Anglo-Saxon pottery, probably from cremation urns. The pottery is a grit tempered black fabric and decorated with various motifs on the surface. There is one rim sherd; the others are body sherds.

1. Large decorated rim sherd. Below the rim is a row of diagonal lines right, two transverse bands below, a band of 'conifer-tree'-like stamps below, two more transverse bands below, blank panel below. 50mm x 43mm

2. Large shoulder sherd. Decorated with band of diagonal lines left with one right at the far right hand side. Two transverse bands below. Below is a band of circulae stamos containing a cross. Band below. 55mm x 53mm

3. Large body sherd, probably from the shoulder. The sherd is densly decorated with randomly placed circles containing a cross. 45mm x 65mm

4. Body sherd, probably Anglo-Saxon. The reverse is a dark fabric in keeping with the other sherds however the surface is an orange-brown colour. The surface is decorated with randomly placed circles. 43mm x 43mm

5. Body sherd. The sherd is decorated with a crescent with a crescent of chevrons above the convex edge. The start of another is visible before the break. Three bands below. 25mm x 40mm

6. Body sherd decorated with three bands and three more at right angles below. 35mm x 30mm

7. Body sherd with crude decoration. There are two bands at the top with a single diagonal line below. Single band below. Band of diagonals below, one of which slightly overlaps the upper band. 20mm x 35mm

8. Body sherd. Band at top. Row of deeply stamped squares containing a cross. Stamped circle containing a cross below set within a rectangle or square. 30mm x 37mm

9. Three bands at top. Stamped circle below containing grilled decoration, 4x4 lines. Start of another to left and right. 32mm x 25mm

10. Body sherd with band at top and stamped concentric circle below. Start of another to left. Circle has two inner bands and perhaps a trefoil in the centre. 25mm x 25mm

11. Body sherd with two bands and two narrower bands meeting it on an acute diagonal. 30mm x 20mm

12. Very worn sherd of uncertain motif. Two ovals next to each other with a band below, and perhaps a line below at a right angle to the upper. 20mm x 24mm

13. Band at top, oval containing four dots below. Start of another to right. Band below. 17mm x 20mm

14. Two lozenge shaped stamps side by side. Concentric circle below with the start of another to left and right. Concentric circle has two rings to it. 17mm x 20mm
